Reading is one of the most fundamental skills required to be successful in the world today. As we were teaching our son to read we found how important sight words are in reading and how often our son would memorize the sequence of the words in a story and not actually learn how to read the word. In order to help him my husband created a simple program that randomizes words and repeats them over a series of slides. Using this our son would only see one word at a time and have it repeat through the slides randomly so he could not repeat a sequence. We limited each list to 5 words and based our word lists off of the Dolch Sight Words list. Below you will find links to different word lists at different reading levels (pre-kindergarten to third grade). Hopefully it will help your children as much as it has helped ours (starting kindergarten he could not read, before first grade he was reading chapter books!).
Alphabet Practice
Alphabet Practice - before starting on sight words it can be helpful to make sure your child is identifying each letter properly. This post goes through and randomizes the alphabet (both upper and lower case letters) with 300 separate slides. Should take up to 10 minutes to work through and will help you to identify if you need to do some more recognition practice with any letters.
Number Practice
Number Practice - It can be helpful to go through numbers 1-20 in the same manner as the alphabet practice as they need to know the numbers 1-20 while in kindergarten and can easily come across any of those numbers when starting to read.
Advanced Number Practice - As our son started reading we found 1-20 was a good start but that he needed higher numbers and after searching through all of his books we found knowing up to 1000 was super helpful.
Advanced Number Practice - This is a repeat of the same type of numbers as the above file but a completely different set of slides, this helped our son have a slightly greater variety.
